When I Was Five, I Wanted to Be…

By: Sammy Wang

A doctor, someone who could take care of my family-

And a lot of money.

Then I gave up on that idea, and now I have no dream career!

I remember my fifth-grade teacher saying that choosing what you want to study was very important, especially for your happiness and well-being.

And I didn’t want to drain my brain with loads of studying and many people to look after.

When I gave up the dream, I felt a little free, but also a heavy cloud of disappointment because of not pursuing a career my parents fully supported me in.

Then in 7th grade, I wanted to be a artist,

Drawing was fun, and doodling was more entertaining than whatever lessons the teacher was blabbering about.

Drawing was way more fun than learning the 50 states of America.

But I didn’t want to spend my whole life drawing or disappoint my parents by choosing art rather than a more stable career like a doctor.

“That job will be hard for your future.”

“Are you sure you want to go with that career?”

Yea, I should think about the future later.

Now I want to be someone who lives a comfortable life-

No drama, no work, just me with electronics.

Electronics are super fun; you can use it to do almost everything!

Games, shows, and talking to people without showing your face – it’s the best!

Of course, I know I have to work hard for that life, and I don’t even know what I want to be in the future.

Worrying too much will be bad for my brain, and I still have many years to enjoy before adulthood.

I know I’ll figure it out one day, just not now.
