Lakers’ Austin Reaves has big-time talent with small-town drive

By: Steven Hsu

From undrafted player to one of the best players in the NBA. With a 3-year contract from the Lakers for a total of 54 million. Austin Reaves forged a legend with his hard work and determination.

Reaves was not born wealthy; he grew up in a small town of 1000 people. This shapes his identity as frugal and determined. Although he was undrafted, he didn’t give up and kept training to reach the NBA level. He went to Lebron’s player’s only minicamp, and played so well that he earned a full-time contract with the Lakers.

He played really well last season with the Lakers, averaging 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in the playoff. Reaves played well, scoring threes after threes. Only all-star guard Devin Booker and FMVP Nichola Jokic have had a better shooting percentage than Reaves.

Reaves was chosen to be on the US National Basketball Team. He is very glad to be teammates with Jaren Jackson, Mikal Bridges, and Brandon Ingram. These star players all approve of his skill. "This ain't no underdogs anymore, he's here," said Mikal Bridges.

Reaves changed from an underdog to an All-star player in the NBA, even wearing the US Jersey. His skills have been approved by his coaches, teammates, and himself. He has true confidence in his ability. Austin Reaves has no limits, and only he can change his ceilings.
