Writing Lab #8: Dashes, Semicolons, Hyphens, and Colons
Class Syllabus - Grades 6-8
Objective: Students will be able to utilize semicolons, colons, hyphens and dashes correctly.
Essential Questions:
What are the functions of semicolons, colons, hyphens, and dashes?
Why do we want to utilize them in our writing?
Enduring Understandings:
Semi colons connect two independent clauses; colons introduce lists; hyphens create compound nouns; dashes show a thought or break in a sentence.
We want to utilize them to vary our sentence structure and highlight our voices as writers.
