Class Syllabus - Grades 6-8






Objective: Students will be able to identify figurative language and its role in a given text.


Essential Questions:

  1. What is figurative language?

  2. Why is figurative language important to use as a writer?


Enduring Understandings:

  1. Figurative language refers to words that are stretched. Its meaning goes beyond its literal definition(s).

  2. Figurative language is important because, by stretching the meaning of words, a writer can sound more artistic, make a joke, or communicate more clearly and engagingly with the reader.


Standards


Grade 6: L.6.3. Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening. A. Vary sentence patterns for meaning (syntax), reader/listener interest, and style/voice. B. Maintain consistency in style and tone.
