Pregnancy can change many people’s lives. Many people consider their situations and decide that it would not be a good addition to their future, so they then settle on the conclusion that abortion would be the solution to their problems. However, others view abortion differently. These many perspectives on the situation has led to a lot of conflict on whether abortion should even be legal.
Abortion is the termination of a human fetus in pregnancy. One may wonder why anyone would feel the need to get rid of future human life. However, about 1 in 5 women in the United States have experienced severe sexual assault, and around 30,000 of those women have unintentionally gotten pregnant from these incidents every year. As these pregnancies could involve some risks that could endanger the mother’s life and the risk wasn’t intentionally taken on, abortion can save women’s lives.
Not long after the Supreme Court ruled banning abortion at the state level, a number of patients from several states requested abortion appointments and pills to be given out the women who chose to abort. Abortion pills were used in more than 50% of the recent abortions in the United States.
People see the pros of taking abortion pills over surgical abortions. It is less expensive, provides more privacy than the surgical approach to abortion, and is more convenient. The pill would simply allow women’s bodies to expel the fetus, similar to them getting their menstrual periods.
The US government began authorizing abortion bans to states that want to enforce these laws. Texas, one of the 19 states with trigger laws in effect, has already begun a enforcing a statute that prohibits any abortion pills from being mailed to people. However, some states, such as California, continue to allow abortion. Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation of SB 245, preventing these laws from influencing California in the future by another administration of the state.
As tension rises over abortion rights, people continue to fight for their abortion rights as more ban laws continue to be enforced across the country. “Hey Jane” is an organization that has served many patients with abortion care. They help track abortion activities and teach patients how to properly care for their bodies when aborting.
“We’ve ramped up our team to accommodate this significant increase in demand,” the chief of the company said.
Anti-abortion groups consider the procedure to be unsafe. James Studnicki, the vice president of data analysis at Charlotte Lozier Institute commented about how “the safety of the abortion pill is greatly exaggerated, and claimed it was “a serious public health threat.”
