Scientists from the University of Florida have created a new paint from nature. The paint is very light and soft. But, the colors of the paint are not really like real paint colors. The paint looks more like a butterfly wing. It is made from pigments-the natural coloring matter of animal or plant tissue. Unlike this paint, other paints used minerals, metals, or chemicals.
The way that the scientists made this was by structural color. Structural color comes from tiny shapes on the surfaces of things like wings, feathers, or shells. Scientists have used nanotechnology to make paint with structural color.
The real idea of making the paint was creating a special mirrored surface. But they found super-tiny clumps of aluminum atoms on the surface.
