Nov. 29th 2022: What the flu does to your body (6-8)

At our lab, we took a look at a vocabulary strategy to help us understand some new scientific words that we encountered. Reread the passage. Then, consider the following:

  1. In the text, the authors discuss cytokines and chemokines. Research more about these proteins and their impact by starting your research here. Be sure to use the SNAP strategy if you encounter any unknown words. Then, write a short article, which highlights the role of these proteins.

  2. Pretend you are a scientist. Using the new words you learned from our lesson and some information from this article, compose a guide, which explores why young immune systems are more effective against Covid-19.

  3. Write a fictional story about a scientist who discovers a cure for a disease or virus that has been affecting our nation. Be sure to touch on how the scientist found the cure, how it helps, what is needed, and what the scientist gets as a reward!
