On June 30th, 2022, the Supreme Court announced that abortion is no longer protected by laws.
The decision caused a lot of outrage in the country, and the Democratic governors recommended people vote against the decision made by the Supreme Court.
“We are facing a watershed moment for our constitutional rights,” said Cheri Beasley, the Democratic Senate nominee in North Carolina, a key battleground and a state that could draw more women seeking abortions from nearby states barring the procedure.
She also urged supporters, “This November, let us run, not walk, to the polls.”
Republicans, on the other hand, have highly praised the decision to remove the protection of abortion from the laws. Still, there are to consider the financial difficulties many Americans face when raising a child if they don’t have access to abortion.
Some states like Pennsylvania and Ohio had already banned abortion. It has a significant impact on those people living there. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost filed a motion to lift a stay on a 2019 state law that banned abortions after about six weeks. Yost wrote on Twitter that the injunction had been removed, though liberal groups still fight his move. In Michigan, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), up for reelection in a swing state, renewed her call for the state court to clarify the status of a 1931 law banning abortion and said she would “fight like hell” to preserve reproductive rights.
The Supreme Court’s recent decision has provoked much negative feedback around the nation. The Republican governor has supported the decision because they want a negative impression of the people against the democrats. This will help their party with the election. At last, this incident will depend on the vote for the abortion supporter in November.
