Truck with Jet Engine Crashed at Michigan air show

By: Cecilia Zhang

This Saturday during the Michigan Air Show a man driving a truck powered by jet engines crashed into two airplanes.. Chris Darnell the driver of the truck died. The accident was “a result of mechanical failure on the Jet Truck,” said Chris' father, Neal Darnell. “Chris so loved the Air Show business,he was ‘Living the Dream.”

The truck was custom made and equipped with 3 jet engines, his family was part of the show for many years. When Chris crashed his truck flipped over at the Battle Creek Executive Airport at Kellogg Field

Some people watching recorded as the truck with fire shooting out the back tumbled down the runway and broke into pieces. The truck was owned by the Darnell racing enterprises. the truck could drive 350 miles an hour; That's around 5.833 miles a minute! The airplanes were piloted by Bill Stein and Rob Holland.

It was an intense race with fire and smoke coming out of the three jet engines, intense heat, and bystanders shouting, “Go Go Go!” “Its just weird how the jet engine propelled from 0 to top speed 300 that quickly,” said Mr. Traver a guy from the Michigan Air Show. “It’s not like it’s a car at a racetrack, where you’re slowly getting up to top speed. It’s zero to top speed.”
