That night

By: Stephen Chen

The person in court is Jim, the accused killer of his colleague. The court was cold, and Jim tried to hide his shivering so that his mom, who was sitting in the back row, would think that he was strong. According to the evidence, Jim murdered his colleague on his way home.

The day after the crime, the sunrise had come as usual, but Jim didn’t have any idea about what he did that night. He was surprised about his arrest and tried to get some help from his lawyer friend, Alex.

“Alex, only you can help me now, or I will live in prison for at least 20 years!” Jim screamed and cried. “hold on, hold on, now you just need to tell me what happened that night.” Alex tried to calm him down.

Jim drank so much wine that he could only remember the beginning of the night at a small bar with his colleague. After a few cups, both were drunk and arguing about something. His memory disappeared at this point. That’s all Jim could tell his lawyer friend. “something strange must have happened,” Jim thought. Jim’s friends agreed. None of them believed that Jim is a murderer as well.

Although Jim’s seemed sure that he was innocent, the police had strong evidence against him. They got the surveillance video from that bar. It showed that Jim’s colleague fights with a person just out of view, who was likely Jim in the corner of the bar. Also, they knew beer bottles were the weapons in the conflict. The police knew that Jim’s colleague was injured by pieces of glass from the bottle with Jim’s fingerprint as one of the most important proofs.

Jim's lawyer suggested that he might have been drugged at the bar, which could explain his memory loss and strange behavior. The prosecution argued that Jim's lack of memory was just an attempt to evade responsibility.

The Judgement was long and difficult for Jim, especially when he hasn’t realized what happened that night. Unfortunately, the truth is that he was found guilty of murder.

20 years later, Jim gets out the prison. It’s time to find the guy behind this killing.
