Tackling fluency is one of the most basic, but most important aspects of reading comprehension. The more we read with expression, the easier it will be to grasp the author's intention and the meaning of any complex text!

Objective: Students will be able to read a passage with appropriate speed, accuracy, and emotion.


Essential Questions:

  1. Why is it important to recognize tone in a passage?

  2. How can reading with emotion and confidence help comprehension?


Enduring Understandings:

  1. Tone allows the reader to better understand the emotions that the characters are feeling and the attitude the author has toward the writing.

  2. Reading with emotion can help students to understand the tone in the passage and relate more clearly to the events.
