Enduring Understandings:

  1. A poem is a type of literature. Poems convey a thought, describe a scene, or tell a story. This is accomplished through the concentration and lyrical arrangement of words.

  2. Meter is the rhythmic structure within a poem. It is dictated by the number of syllables and the pattern in which these syllables are emphasized.
