Mysteries of How the World’s Newest Micronation Started

By: Jessie Sha

When Robert Louis Stevenson wrote the classic book Treasure Island, he wrote it from his own adventures on the island of Fidra. When he was younger, he didn’t know anything about the myths and mysteries that were on another island nearby. This island is known as Lamb, and it could be just like Treasure Island.

This island is owned by the famous spoon bender and “psychic” Uri Geller. Years after he bought it, he decided to make it into its own country. “Lamb is a place like no other,” says Geller, from his home in Old Jaffa, Israel, "and it deserves its own identity. This is a fitting way to do it.” Lamb isn’t the first micronation, as many more have been announced in the 19th century and some were serious, and others were not. Many have their own currency, stamps, and citizenship now.

This place and the two islands near it look parallel to the pyramids of Giza. In fact, many people thought that Scotland had links to ancient Egypt. A 15th Century Scottish chronicle, described by the National Library of Scotland as "probably the most important mediaeval account of early Scottish history." It claims that Scotland was truly founded by Princess Scota, the exiled daughter of the pharaoh whose army drowned pursuing Moses and the Israelites across the Red Sea. One notable person with this story is Mohammed Al Fayed.

When Geller met the former owner of luxury Knightsbridge department store, he had kept a copy of Scotichronicon and told Geller all about how they met. Later, Mr. Al Fayed, an Egyptian-born businessman, sent him another copy as a gift. Geller says, to the best of his memory, Mr. Al Fayed told him the story goes that Scota anchored her boat off Lamb and buried treasure there. However, there is no true evidence of this, Geller, who makes money by inspecting oil and mining corporations says he will use the same method to search for the treasure.
