Lil Nas X Creates Song to Poke Fun At BET

By: Jiahao Chen

The famous and well-known rapper Lil Nas X recently called out the BET Awards show for not nominating him, making posts and a specially dedicated song just to show his anger. "Thank you bet awards. an outstanding zero nominations again. black excellence,” he tweeted, before deleting it. The song he created was called “Late To Da Party (F___ BET),” just to show his anger for not being nominated.

His disappointment started because of the fact he was recognized to be gay - something that was unordinary for stars, especially the ones of his status. Besides the insulting tweet, he also wrote: “I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible." BET said that they loved him, but none of them were on the Voting Academy, made of almost 500 people.

Lil Nas X has faced teasing for being gay, and one rapper seemed to love to stir up his emotions. Other homosexual people have criticized him for being too informative about his sexuality, with people criticizing him after his complaints about BET.

Not only has he been dismissed for being black, artists like Drake and Frank Ocean have accused the Grammys for being racist. Ocean has declined to submit one of his albums because he claims that The Recording Academy isn’t representing the people from where he is, saying, “I hold down what I hold down.” Drake has withdrawn some of his nominations, saying that he was labeled as a rapper, either because he has rapped, or because he is black, saying one of his songs wasn’t a rap.

Even though the BET Awards aren’t of much value, Lil Nas X thinks being denied by his own people was upsetting. When a fan told him he had won many more valuable awards, like all his Grammys, he said that just proved his point because he won a much more valuable award, but he couldn’t even get nominated by his own people.
