Life of a Pimple Mite

By: Ann Zhao

“Breaking news! Recent research has shown that pimples, yes pimples, are caused by seven-legged microscopic alien mites that burrow under your skin!” the TV blares.

The human rushes to the mirror to take a look at their face. They notice a pimple brewing on their cheek and they prod it with their fingers.

“Seriously? No way,” they mutter to themselves. They turn away from the mirror to go back to the television.

“...scientists have concluded that these mites were brought to earth by the asteroids that killed the dinosaurs, which wasn’t even a real asteroid and was instead a giant egg filled with these bugs. When the ‘asteroid’ hit the earth, in reality, the egg sac exploded, and billions of these little creepy crawlies dispersed throughout the world! If you have a pimple on your face right now, beware, because research data shows that as many as a family of 77 mites can reside in one pimple!”

You, a pimple mite, hear the rest of your crew burst out laughing as your human rushes to the mirror once more and begins to pinch and poke at the pimple. From the inside, you can see that the pimple is being squeezed and constricted, almost on the verge of popping.

“Okay, guys! Abandon host!” you hear the leader of your pimple-cohort shout. You accept the cue and begin tearing off your limbs one by one.

As each limb is torn off, a cream-colored liquid oozes out of your pimple mite body. In the world of pimple mites, your life is purely dedicated to your pimple-cohort leader, who will move onto a different part of the human’s body or maybe even to another human to form another pimple reserve. The liquid you bleed will simply aid in hiding your pimple-cohort leader, who is noticeably bigger than the rest of the mites.

Soon, the liquid fills the entire pimple. You can feel yourself being surrounded in it, and you can hear the other pimple mites around you ripping off the last of their limbs.

As your consciousness begins to fade, you feel exceptionally honored that you were able to serve your pimple-cohort leader and be a good pimple-mite.
