Jan. 10 2023: Oliver Twist (6-8)

At our lab, we reviewed a unique strategy for comprehending difficult texts. Reread the story. Then, consider the following:

  1. Read more about the hardships that people in 1830s England, especially those struggling economically, went through. Explain the impact of these obstacles and how they play out in Oliver Twist.

  2. Write the story from the perspective of the master in this excerpt. What would he think about Oliver’s request? Why do you think that is the case? Is he justified in his behavior?

  3. Using the SWBS strategy, write a more detailed paragraph explaining what the story is about. Then, include a life lesson or theme that a student can learn from the story.
