Gunman Kills 3 at Danish Shopping Mall

By: Alex Chu

In Field’s shopping mall on July 2 there was a 22-year-old Danish suspect gunman who killed 3 people and injured 4. The Danish police department reports that the suspected shooter has mental health issues and there is no indication of a terror motive. This unexpected attack sent people fleeing the mall in tears.

The 22-year-old was called by police “an ethnic Dane,” and will go to face questioning by a judge on Monday July 4. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Denmark had suffered a cruel attack. She said she wanted to encourage Danes to stand together and support each other in this difficult time. "Our beautiful and usually so safe capital was changed in a split second," she said.

This terrible shooting occurred just as Denmark was celebrating hosting the first 3 stages of Tour de France for the first time. The suspect was arrested. Around 140 shops and restaurants heard the gunshots nearby and were also terrified.

"Suddenly we hear shots. I think I hear ten shots and then we run through the mall and end up in a toilet, where we huddle together in this tiny toilet, where we are around 11 people. It's really hot and we wait and we are really scared. It's been a terrible experience," a woman named Isabelle reported to the Danish media.
