Coach Mark Budzinski on leave after Eldest Daughter’s Death

By: Albert Gong
No father should have to suffer from their child’s death. Mark Budzinski Coach of the Toronto Blue Jays is on leave since his elder daughter’s death.
Mark Budzinski’s 17-year-old daughter, Julia Budzinski, died in a deadly boat accident at the James River in Virginia. She and her friend fell off an inner tube. Though the boat operator jumped in the water to save them, unfortunately only her friend could be rescued in time. The boat hit a wave causing the propeller to strike her; she was then rushed to the hospital and later pronounced as dead.
When Coach Budzinski heard about this tragic news he left the Blue Jays in the third inning at the second game. Before the Sunday’s series finals there was a moment of silence for Julia Budzinski.
Julia’s Mother Monica Budzinski said at the vigil “it was a very happy, fun last day on Earth for her. She was happy, laughing, having a good time and that’s how I’m going to remember her”.
This devastating loss is felt by our entire organization and we grieve alongside Bud and his family.” Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said in a statement, “I have known Bud for more than 25 years and have always admired his commitment as a dad and husband first. He is loved and well-respected by our entire clubhouse and holds a special place in all our hearts.”
We give our condolences to Mark Budzinski and his family during this tragedy.
