Changing Relationships (Sonnet)

By: Emily Hur

A Do you remember those old summer days?

B Counting the stars or just scanning the sky

A When we nearly cried in uncle’s corn maze

B And quickly came home to mom’s lemon pie

C The heat only grew thicker with each week

D New rocks were added to our collection

C We tried to catch a frog at Willow Creek

D To keep as a pet and a companion

E Yet every summer is followed by fall

F The wind starts to whistle a different song

E Students pile into the school’s study hall

F But nothing can remain the same for long

G We lost touch with each other years ago

G But I’m tired of going through life solo
