Black Poodles and Collars

By: Celina Cai

Everyone has a black poodle. Everyone. Not me. I have a sheltie. Doesn’t it feel weird when everyone has a black poodle except you? I didn’t want to get a black poodle. I liked my dog perfectly well, and I didn’t want to change that. My friends begged me to change. “

Come on,” they said. “I know you will love poodles.” But I always refused. I liked my dog perfectly well.

That next day, I went to the pet store to get my dog a new collar. When I stepped into the collar section, there were collars for poodles everywhere. Poodle was all the collars said on them. I looked around and couldn’t find one collar that didn’t say poodle. So, I went to the manager of the shop. I told him about my problem.

The manager thought for a second and said, “I will get you a perfect collar. Come back tomorrow.”

The next day, I got to the store and went to the manager’s office. There, hanging on the doorknob, was a collar. I picked it up. It was sparkly red and had a place to put your dog’s name in, and a place to put the location and phone number. I thought this collar was perfect. I knocked on the manager’s door, but no one answered. I sadly turned around to leave but bumped into someone. I looked up and saw the manager smiling down at me.

“Do you like it?” he asked.

“Yes!” I replied. “You know, you can even use this collar for black poodles.”

“I know,” he answered. “But no one liked them. I used to have a bunch of collars for shelties and collies, but now I don’t. Hope you liked it.”

“Oh, I need to pay you,” I said suddenly. “Can’t believe I forgot,” I said, holding out my credit card.

“Oh no,” the manager replied. “Take it for free.” And with that, he turned around and left. And that is how I got the best collar ever.
