Athletes from St. Louis Cardinals will miss matches because of COVID-19 vaccination status

St. Louis Cardinals players Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt, and Austin Romine will miss matches against Blue Jays because they do not meet Canada’s requirements to enter the country.

The Canadian government requires foreign nationals who arrive Canada to get full vaccination – either a second COVID- 19 vaccine dose or at least one dose of the J & J vaccine, at least 14 days in advance of entering the country.

According to apnews.com, unvaccinated baseball players are placed on the restricted list, where they are not paid and do not accrue major league service time.

Because of that, Arenado will lose $384,416, Goldschmidt $241,758 and Romine $10,989.

The three players will be replaced on the roster by catcher Ivan Herrera, outfielder Conner Capel and infielder/outfielder Cory Spangenberg in the series, which will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Here are those players stats:

Goldschmidt, professional first baseman, has a batting average of (.335), home runs (24), RBIs (77), and slugging percentage of (.619).

Arenado, professional third baseman, has a batting average of (.296), home runs (18), RBIs (59) and slugging percentage of (.528).

Romine, professional catcher, has a batting average of (.167), home runs (0), RBIs (0), and slugging percentage of (.136).
