Army General who mocked Jill Biden is suspended

By: Bryan Li

Lieutenant General Gary Volesky was suspended by the United States Army after his apparent mocking of First Lady Jill Biden. In response to Biden’s comments regarding the Roe v. Wade, Volesky tweeted“Glad to see you finally know what a woman is”

This isn’t the first time Volesky has also commented on other political figures’ tweets; when Republican Liz Cheney of Wyoming said, “Our oath to the Constitution must be above partisan politics” Volesky responded with, “This is all about partisan politics.”

The 60-year-old has had an incredibly long career and been decorated with many awards and medals. He was the Army’s public division chief from 2012 to 2014, and he later commanded the famous 101st Airborne Division until 2017. After that, he led Joint Base Lewis-McChord and commanded I Corps until 2020. Also, Volesky has served in many wars including the Iraq War, Gulf War, and War in Afghanistan.

Lieutenant General Theodore Martin suspended Volesky from his contract. Volesky was one of the few retired officials to offer training and mentorship for the Army.
