A Letter to Joshua Wong

By: Luke Wang

Dear Mr. Joshua Wong,

I have recently read your opinion article published on the EWJ about the Hong Kong issue. I can perfectly understand the feelings and opinions of Hong Kongers and many of the Hong Kong press as you have mentioned. As a reader based in mainland PRC, I also dislike many actions undertaken by the government such as using agents and infrared cameras to stalk and track journalists that hold a different opinion. Many years ago, the previous paramount leader of the CCP, Deng Xiaoping have claimed before about Hong Kong, “马照跑,舞照跳(The horse will run as before and the dancing will carry on as usual). This promise is now badly held by the current leader, Xi Jingping. However, there is one thing I would like to ask about your article, in your article, you used the word “China” many times. I suppose you are representing the CCP. If you are mentioning the country as a whole, I can tell you that is not true as there are many others that still support and understand the struggle of the Hong Kong people. In conclusion, thank you for your update and the article!
