The day after Elon Musk challenged Mark Zuckerberg on social media to a cage match, Dana White, the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship received a phone call.
It was from Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta. He asked Mr. White, who heads the world’s premier mixed martial arts competition, which is fought in cage-like rings, if Elon Musk was serious about a fight.
In response, Mr. White called Elon Musk, who runs Tesla, Twitter and SpaceX, and Musk confirmed that he was willing to be thrown down in the game. Mr. White then relayed this to Zuckerberg. Mr. Zuckerberg posted on Instagram: “Send Me Location,” a reference to the catchphrase of Khabib Nurmagomedov, one of the U.F.C.’s most decorated athletes.
Since then, Mr. White has negotiated with Musk and Zuckerberg about the details of the showdown. On Tuesday, Mr. White said he was on the phone with both men until 12:45 in the morning. He confirmed, “They both want to do it.” They have discussed and are inching towards physical combat. Although there is no guarantee a match will happen, the event seems to be taking shape.
Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk agreed that there should be a charity component and their preferred location is Las Vegas, which requires approval from the Nevada Athletic Commission.
Many are excited for the match and are ready to see a new side of the two.
We all can agree that the two are great at tech, but are they good at athletics?
