BOOK REVIEWS give our students the opportunity to share their thoughts on the books they have been reading in class, or in our book club. In these reviews, we encourage students to engage with the texts by putting themselves into the characters' shoes and questioning the decisions those characters make.  Below are some books covered in the Book club

The struggles that Lorraine Hansberry faced in her life are reflected in her characters. Mama, Walter, Beneatha, Ruth  & Travis all face internal struggles as while living in a world that doesn't accept them as equal.

Gene Luen Yang is a brilliant writer who communicates the experiences of growing up Chinese in Western Society.. Jin's views of himself reflect the complicated views many minorities share in the United States  today.

The original Greek Tragedy. Oedipus is a man who simply wants to save his  city-state Thebes. His desire for more knowledge is an allegory of our own ambitions and how sometimes we should keep them in check.
